- The 1978 season was a memorable
- one for Pete Rose. During June and
- July, Pete attempted to break Joe
- DiMaggioΓÇÖs record 56-game hitting
- streak. For 44 straight games, Pete
- batted .385 and got a hit in every game.
- But the streak ended on August 1, in
- Atlanta, when Pete went hitless against
- Braves pitchers Larry McWilliams and
- Gene Garber.
-
- PeteΓÇÖs 44-game hitting streak tied an
- 81-year-old National League record set
- by Willie Keeler of the Baltimore Orioles.
